Gila Woodpecker
The Gila Woodpecker is every bit as annoying as Woody! They are noisy and not pretty like the Hooded Oriole. Don’t they know that you can get away with more with great looks? Apparently not.
Sometimes I’ll shoe (shew?) them away when they are stealing sugar water. Even then, it’s an uphill battle. They’ll be back.
Notice I don’t complain much about the Oriole being a theft. We want him coming around with his striking looks and all.
By the way, this is a female Gila Woodpecker. The males have a cool red spot on the top of their head.

Return of the Hooded Oriole
This has to be one of the best looking birds I have ever seen. I first saw him over a year ago and then he quit coming around. Recently he has returned to satisfy his sweet tooth, er, sweet beak.
Today, I caught him on “tape” (flash drive on the Flip Ultra HD, actually):
These are captured video frames that were then to created to create the pretty pictures below. Enjoy!

Hooded Oriole
I was noticing a beautiful golden bird visiting the hummingbird feeder, but everytime I tried to snap a picture, it would fly off. Finally, I succeeded! But I had no idea what kind of bird it was. I posted a picture on my personal web site and got a reply. It’s a Hooded Oriole. I still see him around from time to time. I’ll try to get some video. If I do, you know I’ll post it.
